Night at the Beach
By Andy Alt / Mental Dimensions
July 12, 2008 – I was sitting on the beach and happened to notice the sun. It was setting, and it was both colorful and awe-inspiring. I decided to walk toward the sun to touch it; I stopped short, however, struck by a sudden temporary bout of logic and blindness in both eyes.
A rest may help my eyes, I thought. Following that line of reasoning, I laid down to sleep, perchance to do up some nightmares. I must have blacked out, because I later woke up with no memory of what I had been doing. I awoke to find myself very tired and extremely horizontal. I was not taken aback at this sudden state of my existence, but I was pleasantly surprised that resting had cured my blindness and cleared my head.
Having no thoughts at this point, I became fearful. Of what I cannot remember, for my head was completely clear, null and void. The fear and lack of thought ended quickly, its cause never determined. Immediately after my head filled up with things and stuff, I was approached by two women of unknown origin. They asked me if I would coat them with sunblock. As I turned my head to answer, they saw my face, apologized for disturbing my thoughts, and walked away in order to be rescued by a well-manicured lifeguard.
By this time the sky was either dark or I was again sightless. I knew that darkness was preferable, so I decided that it was dark. My inference was confirmed when light fell from a small moon hanging from the sky; probably the same moon that has been caught in the Earth’s gravity for an eon. I abruptly acquired a hunger for cheese. There were no cows nearby, but I was able to obtain a cheese dog for a modest sum of money from a nearby concession stand. The cheese dog reminded me of the moon, but because I was beginning to experience deja’ vu, dizziness and increased brain activity, I headed for home.
