Next Patient Please | Humor

Next Patient Please
By Richard Eckersberg

At 9:02 AM I walked through the office door of the orthopedic surgeon for my scheduled 9:30AM appointment. Arriving early only ensured that the inevitable paperwork would be filled out, copies of my insurance card made and I could then wait an extra twenty minutes past my scheduled time. As we are all aware, doctors are never on time, except for their bills; no delays in that department. I approached the receptionist and gave my pedigree in full account. I was then handed a clipboard and told to fill out all the high-lighted areas and return them when I was finished. This was said in such an autocratic manner that I felt a cardboard figure dressed in scrubs and disguised as a human was talking to me. I found an empty seat and began the litany of paperwork. Fibromyalgia Drug-Free Therapy, Just Relax and Keep Your Money

Fibromyalgia Drug-Free Therapy, Just Relax and Keep Your Money
By Andy Alt / Mental Dimensions

Aug 1, 2008 – I know someone who has fibromyalgia. I didn’t know I had it until talking to her. Every symptom I mentioned was one that she has. “under-the-skin-itching” and in various parts of the body, including eyebrow and ear lobe, just for a couple seconds. When I put my hands behind my head, immediate a numbing or tingling occurred near my shoulders. Being in more pain after a mile walk, which always seemed strange because of what’s said about walking being a great way to help with pain. Pain, soreness, tingling, stinging in the base of the thumb, or on the side of hand, on top of the hand, or in the fingers, sometimes a sensation of burning; also in the forearms at times, biceps, triceps, elbows. Non Humor | SSRI Addiction or Physical Dependency Update 2

SSRI Addiction or Physical Dependency Update 2
By Andy Alt / Mental Dimensions

Jul 25, 2008 – I received a very fascinating call a few minutes ago. The caller was from Representative John Kline’s office; John Kline represents Congressional District 2 in Minnesota. He thanked me for my letter about addiction and ssri medication. He said he wasn’t aware of the addiction/physical dependency issue. I clarified to him that I wasn’t a doctor, and he said they’d do some research and talk to some professionals on staff. And depending on what they found out, there would be… I believe the word he used was hearing. Continue reading ‘Non Humor | SSRI Addiction or Physical Dependency Update 2′

Speaking of Meditation and Computer and Internet Addiction

Speaking of Meditation and Computer and Internet Addiction

Deep Brain Stimulation For Depression
When I read that headline, I assumed meditation might be mentioned. But no, again, apparently only foreign objects can treat depression. Something about a drill, a brain, and some electrodes.

Try meditation. It can’t hurt. It has no drug interactions. I’ve been trying it; if it helps me, I’ll probably note it somewhere on this site. Thus far, it’s been extremely helpful in dealing with some pain issues I’ve been experiencing for the last four years. The results from the meditation regarding the pain are very promising so far. Contacting the Complaint Department about Prescription Drugs

Contacting the Complaint Department about Prescription Drugs
By Andy Alt / Mental Dimensions

Jul 17, 2008 – On June 26th, 2008, I wrote about addiction and SSRI medication in response to a TIME magazine article. (I’ve recently been corrected, and informed that addiction is the wrong term in the case of SSRI medication; the medical community prefers physical dependence, but my American Heritage dictionary made no distinction between the two.)

The Minnesota State Attorney General’s office was one of the destinations of my letter. Today I received a response. The first paragraph of their reply paraphrased what I had written. The second paragraph has a bit more substance. Continue reading ‘Contacting the Complaint Department about Prescription Drugs’

Are Cigarettes Addicted to Humans? | Humor

Are Cigarettes Addicted to Humans?
By Tom Dicken Hairy

05 Feb 2006 – It has long been thought that humans easily fall prey to the addiction of nicotine as well as other tobacco substances.

However, what if all these years we’ve had it backwards?
What if perhaps cigarettes are actually addicted to humans?

Maybe those tobacco organizations aren’t the evil lobbyists we assume they are?

Allow me to present the story of a cigarette named Nick ‘o’ tean, Continue reading ‘Are Cigarettes Addicted to Humans? | Humor’

Quit Smoking, or at Least Think about Quitting

Quit Smoking, or at Least Think about Quitting
By Andy Alt / Mental Dimensions, Co-Edited By Story Charms

15 Jan 2006 – Quitting smoking now greatly reduces chances of your premature death. It’s difficult to quit smoking, sometimes as difficult as getting out of bed in the morning. Getting out of bed every day and quitting smoking is important for maintaining good health; that’s why I’m providing a motivational article to help you in your endeavors to better yourself. Getting out of bed is beyond the scope of this article, and I’ll only be focusing on smoking cessation.

I figured that as long as I got out of bed, I might as well think about something, so I thought about quitting smoking. Thinking about quitting smoking is almost as important as making it a reality. Continue reading ‘Quit Smoking, or at Least Think about Quitting’
